my studio space is in our attic. it is not very glamorous. i’ve set up in an alcove with a small rectangular window, a discarded shortie desk, and a collection of dishes that i recycle every few weeks. my collection of laura ingalls wilder came to visit a few months ago and hasn’t left yet - probably because the sun is so nice coming through the skylights, and i’m not sure laura ever got much time with cats, so she probably enjoys watching yoshi dozing on sylvia’s suitcase.
the loveliest studio space i’ve ever seen is karen roccon’s in mystic, connecticut. she works in a renovated garage space on her property on the mystic river. the studio is between the house and the sea grass, and just beyond is the harbor full of masts.
days like today, though, and i think my little attic nook gives karen a run for her money.
