so i have the longest winter break from school in the history of school. it’s as though it’s a farming community and i’m supposed to be harvesting winter crops. well winter crops suck so i’m not harvesting them. so you know what i’m doing instead?
futsal, if you haven’t heard of it, is indoor soccer with a few alterations. there’s a league in portland, and we even have our own athletic center. it’s indoor soccer on a smaller field, with a size 4 ball, and no throw ins (which is actually perfect because with my bad shoulders i can’t throw anything). it’s 5 on a side including goalie.
my team is hot pink, we’re called “twinkle toes.”
it is SO FUN. i just got back from my game. i kind of broke my butt, so i’m icing it right now, but other than that. so fun. i don’t have indoor shoes or shin guards out here in oregon - so i made shin guards out of cardboard (i covered them with white paper so that the ref won’t see that they are trader joe’s brand). and i’m wearing an old beat up pair of kelly’s puma’s.
i have a pretty serious Britt Doesn’t Play Sports With Boys rule. i really don’t like boys in my sports. i think women play the most incredible games where they really get to know each other on the field, and anticipate, and nobody’s a stupid show off who won’t pass. but this team just works. maybe it’s cause we’re wearing pink, or cause it’s portland and people surprise you.
I am so glad that mimi is my friend because, well many reasons, but mostly right now because she introduced me to the fantastic and oddly-named sport of futsal, which is what i will be doing until march when class starts.
